Keenan J. Saulter

Keenan has spent his nearly 15 year career as a trial attorney. He focuses his practice on providing justice through advocacy to each of his personal injury clients with a personal touch. Keenan’s first priority is always the client and in his practice his clients are individuals and families who have been harmed due to negligence of others.

In Keenan’s practice he is required to fight against large corporations and insurance companies on behalf of often severely injured people and their families.

Pending and Representative Matters
  • Wrongful Death Trucking Litigation matter. I serve as lead counsel in a matter pending in Cook County Circuit court where we represent the Estate of a married father of four who was killed when a trucker for a multi-national corporation recklessly crashed into the father.
  • Wrongful Death Nursing Home Negligence matter. I serve as lead counsel in a matter where we represent the Estate of a father of four adult children who suffered a debilitating brain injury and ultimately his death as a result of the negligence of the nursing home staff where he was staying.
  • Wrongful Death, Infant Medical Malpractice matter. I serve as co-counsel in a matter where an infant tragically died from an infection due to the negligence of a he staff of a major local hospital. The infant’s life could have been saved had hospital staff acted with reasonable care and properly examined and cared for the infant.
  • Wrongful Death, Toddler Medical Malpractice matter. I serve as co-counsel in a matter where a toddler was misdiagnosed with a common cold, when instead the toddler had a serious heart and lung infection and she died two days following her initial visit to the emergency room of a local hospital emergency room.
  • Contested Probate matter. I served as lead counsel for a man who was being kept from his share of a very large estate. Prior to our involvement, the estate had advised the man that he would receive nothing. Following our involvement and protracted litigation we obtained $250,000 for the man on the eve of the probate hearing.
  • Police Brutality matter. I served as lead counsel in a matter where our client was beaten by members of a local police force following a night out at a local eatery. We received a favorable confidential settlement for our client.
  • Successfully prosecuted and obtained judgment in commercial forcible entry and detainer action seeking possession and nearly $150,000 in damages.
  • Successfully defended construction company client in an ERISA dispute in federal district court, achieved favorable result for the client in case seeking more than $200,000 in damages.
  • Successfully defended lawsuit against non-profit board chairman seeking nearly $300,000 in damages relating to a dispute with contractors, case dismissed with no damages paid following filing of motion to dismiss.
  • Member of the litigation team in multiple product liability and mass tort lawsuits pending in federal and state courts arising out of an alleged outbreak of a food-borne illness. Favorable settlement reached for the client.
  • Member of the litigation team for a warehouse fire that resulted in the largest loss of first responders since September 11, 2001. Favorable settlement obtained for the client.
  • Prosecuted breach of fiduciary duty and employee jumping ship federal injunctive action involving several novel issues of law. Led negotiations with the foreign manufacturer on behalf of the client and obtained a favorable outcome. The court issued the requested permanent injunction.
  • Member of the litigation team in a chancery matter involving a corporate opportunity usurpation and breach of employee restrictive covenants. Favorable settlement was reached on behalf of the client.

Community Involvement, Pro Bono and Leadership Experience
  • Although Keenan is committed to fighting for families who have been impacted by the negligence of others, he is also very active in his community volunteering with several local and national charitable organizations as well as coaching and mentoring young people.
  • Represented clients on a Pro Bono basis behalf of the Center for Disability and Elder Law and clients referred through the Northwestern University Juvenile Law Clinic.
  • Regularly performs community service and mentoring activates with various civic organizations and he has participated in the Lawyers in the Classroom Program at various Chicago Public Schools.
  • Served as the inaugural Chair of the Associate Board of the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms.
  • Served as Secretary for the Cook County Bar Association Foundation.
  • Life Member of the National Bar Association.
  • Has served as a tuition sponsor and mentor to a student in affiliation with the LINK Unlimited Program.

Curtis J. Tarver II

Curtis is an attorney with broad experience having worked various capacities in both the public and private sector. He began his career as a litigator focused on personal injury defense and commercial litigation matters at a midsize law firm in Chicago. He then shifted to the public sector where he worked as an Assistant to Mayor Richard M. Daley in the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. He is also the former Director of Public Affairs for the Independent Police Review Authority. Curtis’ current practice includes both litigation and business counseling.

He is meticulous in his preparation and he routinely negotiates favorable settlements on behalf of the firm’s clients without the necessity of filing a lawsuit. Having experience representing plaintiffs and defendants allows him to quickly value claims and to bring resolution for his clients. When it is necessary to fully litigate a matter he has tried cases and obtained favorable judgments on behalf of the firm’s clients.

Curtis also works closely with middle market entities to achieve their business objectives while maintaining their compliance with applicable laws.

Pending and Representative Matters
  • Wrongful Death Trucking Litigation matter. I serve as co-counsel in a matter pending in Cook County Circuit court where we represent the Estate of a married father of four who was killed when a trucker for a multi-national corporation recklessly crashed into the father.
  • Toxic Mold and Lead Litigation. I serve as lead counsel in a matter involving a landlord who allowed mold, sewage and lead to exist in the landlord’s property where a mother and her four minor children resided thereby causing significant health issues to the children.
Recent PI Litigation
  • Premises Liability. Negotiated $135,000.00 settlement on behalf of an elderly woman who suffered a severely broken arm that required surgery after she fell down the stairs of her apartment building. The owner of the property had improper railing, lighting and several building code violations. No lawsuit filed.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident. Negotiated $100,000.00 settlement (full policy demand) on behalf of client who suffered a critically broken ankle which required surgery after being struck by a vehicle while walking the crosswalk. Settled matter in less than sixty (60) days. No lawsuit filed.
  • Police Brutality. Negotiated a confidential settlement on behalf of Chicago Public Schools student who was injured after being unjustifiably assaulted by a Chicago Police Officer.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident. Negotiated settlement $25,000.00 (full policy demand) on behalf of client who was rear-ended in a motor vehicle accident and suffered physical injuries. No lawsuit filed.
Recent Business Litigation
  • Property Tax Challenge. Assisted on of the firm’s not-for-profit client’s in refund of $102,000.00 in overpaid taxes to Cook County. Obtained a reduction in property taxes on behalf of a not-for-profit organization. Secured a reduction of $55,000.00 in annual property taxes.
  • Premises Liability Defense. I was lead counsel in representing an apartment building developer and large property manager in a wrongful death matter involving a $9,000.000.00 demand. Obtained complete dismissal of our client.
  • ERISA Defense. Successfully defended one of the firm’s construction company clients in an ERISA dispute in federal district court, achieved favorable result for the client in case seeking more than $200,000.00 in damages in a strict liability matter.
  • Civil Rights Defense. Served as lead counsel in defending our client at the Illinois Human Rights Commission in a civil rights matter. Obtained dismissal without necessitating a hearing.
  • Civil Rights Defense. Member of litigation team in federal class-action lawsuit of Cook County Jail detainees suing Cook County Sheriff Michael Sheahan alleging civil rights violations.
